Term 2– 2018 Overview
This term overview is an indication of the work I have planned and will be adjusted according to student response and other opportunities for learning that occur throughout the term. Our Geography topic “The Earth’s environment sustains all life” (Year 4) and “Factors that shape the human and environmental characteristics of places” (Year 5) will influence our learning. Please continue to provide the great support for your child at home.
English
This term students will be focusing on two genres – Persuasive and Narrative. They will be looking at the text features, structure and most importantly, adding descriptive details to their writing. By the end of term, hopefully students will understand the different purposes of texts and how to independently structure their writing.
There will also be a large focus on handwriting and consistent formation of letters and numbers.
All students have individualised spelling contracts taken from words they have spelt incorrectly in testing and their work. Putting words into sentences, marking up phonograms, identifying antonyms, synonyms, prefixes and suffixes and identifying Functional Grammar in their sentences will be weekly tasks throughout the term.
Room 31 and 30 are going to be involved in the ‘Fresh Start’ program ( a version of Read, Write, Inc.) to help students in need of extra literacy help.
